Shayminism
History: Very contemporary and disorganized to the point where it can hardly be considered an established religion rather than just a way of life, Shayminism has had roots in Sinnoh and a few other places around the world for the last hundred years, but only became relevant and mainstream in the last decade. Shayminism is based on common Vitalist assertions and shares a few similarities with Mewist beliefs, though there are a few clear differences and one was not based off the the other. Beliefs: Despite the name what the name may suggest, Shaymin is not usually worshipped in Shayminism. However, it is asserted that Shaymin was created by Xerneas (rather than evolved from Mew, as Mewists would believe) to act as “little helpers” to Xerneas. Shaymin are not considered gods though, just an extremely rare breed of pixelmon (as in, virtually no confirmed sightings) with the ability to grow plant life, particularly flowers, wherever they want.
Instead of worshipping Shaymin as a deity, Shayminists practice a lifestyle in reflection of Shaymin. Shayminism emphasizes passivism, humility, and camaraderie among people of all backgrounds. They believe one should live with nature, rather than living off nature. Preservation and sustainability of nature is big deal for most Shayminists.
When it comes to death and the afterlife, Shayminism and Mewism share similarities in that they both believe in reincarnation based on the actions in one’s life, and that humans and pixelmon possess souls. However, Shayminists believe all living things have souls, including plants. They also believe, unlike in Mewism, that every soul is completely unique. They also believe that the souls never leave the world, and are instead recycled. At the end of their lives, a tree could reincarnate as a human just as easily as a human could reincarnate as a tree.
Place of Worship: Shayminism is messy and disorganized. They believe that a designated place of worship is not needed, because their place of “worship” is all around them. However, because it’s such a new system of beliefs and lacking in any tradition, worship has taken on many forms. Whether it be smalltime priests or monks traveling around trying to communicate being one with nature, shrines being built without a standard, people just trying to live a humble lifestyle, or even folks trying to be hip and trendy with this new religion, all have been done in the name of Shayminism.
