Mewism (Mew)

Post: # 11418Post Tdf88 »

Note: While reading, it is important to remember that these are the teachings of this religion as they have been passed down. People always have and always will have their own interpretations of these subjects, which means these do not have to be strictly followed if that is something your character would not do. These descriptions are not comprehensive, meaning that players have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to behaving however they’d like as a follower of a religion. Mewism

History: Mew has long been recognized as one of the first pixelmon ever created, but an actual belief system based around Mew is fairly new, and is believed to have appeared only around 300 years ago. Mewism has roots in Vitalism but originated in Kanto, and has a few key differences.

Beliefs: Despite the name, Mewism is less about the worship of Mew and more of a celebration of what Mew represents. Mewism claims that Xerneas did not create all living things at once and independently of one another. Mew were the first creatures brought into the world. From Mew’s template, and the occasional divine intervention from the Vitalist gods, all other pixelmon would evolve, and from pixelmon, humans evolved. When confronted with the problem of how artificially-created pixelmon came to be, Mewists explain that even though those pixelmon were not descendants of Mew, Mew has passed down more than genetics. Mewists believe all humans and pixelmon share a common Soul, and every creature in the world (Mew included) is bound by this.

Mewists celebrate the belief that every human and pixelmon are, in a way, one in the same. The flagship for this idea is Mew. Coincidentally, many Mewists tend to become biologists or geneticists with a quest to find the missing genetic links between pixelmon and humans, and to explain our own evolution and deviation.

When it comes to death and the afterlife, the answer is rather ambiguous. While a small portion of Mewists still believe in the Arceist heaven, Distortion World, and Nightmare Realm, the vast majority of Mewists believe in Reincarnation. Mewists believe that what they do in life determines what form their souls will take when they reincarnate, whether it be human or pixelmon.

Place of Worship: Mewists generally do not have large churches, and for the most part do not attend regular religious sermons. Mewish priests do exist however, to teach others what Mew represents. Mewists are more likely to build little shrines to celebrate Mew, and any designated buildings to worship in don’t get much larger than small temples.
