Region Name: Holova
Demonym: Holovans
Country Equivalent(if any): The Netherlands.
Demographics: The small region is densely populated.
Official Language: Holovan
Capital City(if any): Grachterdam
Religion(if any): Mostly Arceism
Geography: The Holova region is nestled between the northern coasts of Schieferwald and Avalon. The region is small, most of the land in the region is used for something, cities, agriculture, roads, anything. The region is mostly under sea level and is mostly flat, there are no mountains or hills. The region is located near the sea and has extremely disappointing beaches and a few islands. It's got a oceanic climate with warm summers and mild winters.
History:
The Holova region was a simple region for many years, but it wasn't a real region and the land which is now known as the Holova Region was first divided between many different kings until all of the land was taken over, and then taken over again, and again. The Holova region had a history of being taken over by a lot of other regions and eventually the people of the region were united and become one true region under one king. A famous person in Holovan history is Wilhelm Van Leeuw, the king of Holova when it was taken over by Avalon, Wilhelm was a great king but was eventually assassinated, the Holova region then quickly got their freedom back from Avalon after the son of Wilhelm van Leeuw made peace with Avalon. After many years, the people started to dislike how the kings used their power and surprisingly one king did as well. King Wilhelm the fourth gave up the powers of the royalty in Holova, they would still be royalty, but without any real power. During the great war, the region was once more taken over by Schieferwald, the then Queen escaped to nearby Avalon. After the great war, the region was quickly rebuilt. After the war, there was a great flood, which caused a lot of damage. Now the region is quite a rich region, but is still recovering from the great war. The people of the region seemed to be happy, and the royal family was happy as well, until one day when then queen of Holova was found dead in her room, she had been shot to death. Thinking people were hunting after the royal family, king Alexander send his son Roderick to the Toro region, thinking he would be safer there and it could help the two regions bond.
Culture: Simply like the Netherlands in the 50's culture, with windmills and tulips.
Economy: The Holova region's Economy is mostly agriculture, shipping and trade. The region is quite rich for a region affected so much by the great war.
Notable Figures(if any): Alexander Van Leeuw(Current king of Holova), Roderick Van Leeuw(Current Prince of Holova), Sophie Van Leeuw(Current Queen of Holova, deceased), Albert de Graaf(Current Premier of Holova)
Other: The country's official color is orange and the official pixelmon is Pyroar.

Post: # 12480Post Portalgunblaze »
---Basic Information---
Holova, the Netherlands region. The region is nestled in between Schieferwald and Avalon, two allies of the region. Compared to the regions surrounding it, Holova is quite small in size, but what it lacks in size, it surely makes up for in everything else. The region is well known for multiple things, including but not only: Their cheese, their bikes, their windmills, everything tulip and flower related, their wooden shoes and ofcourse their stands on soft drugs. While the region is a democracy, it still has a monarchy, the Royal Van Leeuw family. While they don't have complete rule over the region, they do have their duties and have power in some ways. The official language of the region is Holovan, the capital is Grachterdam and while being quite small, the region is densely populated. The region is also known as Batavia, which some people think it's called. This is incorrect. Batavia is the name of the two largest provinces in the region, east and west Batavia.
---Demographics and Geography---
For a small region, Holova has always been quite densely populated. A lot of people seem to want to live in the region, the immigration being quite high compared to other regions. About 15 million people live in the region and this number is only growing each day.
The Holovans don't like to waste stuff, which includes space. A big reason why there is such a high population density is because nearly all land is used for something, whether roads, agriculture, cities or anything else. This is not to say Holova doesn't have any nature, in contrary. The people of Holova respect nature quite a lot, which can best be seen in three of their largest cities, which all incomparate nature in their design somehow. While the Holovans love nature, the sea is complicated.
The region is mostly under sea level, meaning it's below most water. The shores of the region are higher up and have large dikes which prevent the region from flooding, but if the region were to be flooded, like when it did after the great war, the results would be severe. Floods, atleast minor ones, used to happen a lot in the region before they got better at fighting the sea. The region has numerous damns, dikes and other things to hold back the water, but none compare to one of the largest causeways and largest land reclemation project in the world.
In between the two largest provinces of the region, East and West Batavia, are two incredible works of man. The first is the Afsluitdijk (Translated: Closingdike), one of the largest Causeways in the world which seperates the Northern Sea from the artificial fresh water lake known as Flave lake. Inside the lake in the largest mass of land ever reclamated, the province of Flave, which houses the large Leliestad, many of the region's tulips and it's grass type gym.
Most of the region is flat, the only hilly parts being near Schieferwald. There are no mountains in the whole region. While located near the sea, the climate isn't the best for sea fun, seeing as the beaches are quite dissapointing, eventhough the region has a oceanic climate with warm summers
The region also has 4 islands near it's shore and a large collection of islands far away known as the Holovan Antilles.

---Map and cities---
Holova is filled with cities and towns, small and large.
The most important/largest of these cities have been shown and numbered on the map and will now be listed out. These are not all the cities and towns, just that are either very important, very big or both.
Grachterdam, named after grachten, a kind of canal found in multiple Holovan cities, is the capital of the region. It was founded as the first city of the region and is the capital for this very reason. It's a large city, surrounded by many smaller towns which are nearly indistinguisable from the main city.
The city is seperated into two parts, the old part and the new parts. The old part of the town, well, it has a lot of old buildings and architecture which has been well taken care of. The capital has a lot of tourist attractions, one of the biggest sizewise being the Royal Palace, which houses not only the royal family, but is also a important political building. Besides the palace, there are attractions related to the great war, brothels, drug shops and lots of night clubs. The largest of these night clubs is 'SCREEEAM', written and somehow pronounced with 3 E's. It's run by Martin Van Buuren, a popular DJ and also the town's Normal Type gym leader.
The City is connected to the second largest city in Holova, Vleuterdam, via the Afsluitdijk.
Vleuterdam is known for one very important and very large thing, it's port. It's the largest portown in the world and the main hub of Holova's important and export. The city is quite modern compared to Grachterdam. Most of the city had been destroyed in the great war, so it had to be rebuilt. Seeing as there were no old buildings which had to be kept the same way left, the whole city was able to update and improve.
While one may think the people of the town love swimming and their gym is water type, this is actually wrong.
Near the stadium is a huge football stadium, owned by one of the most popular Holovan football teams. The star player of this team, Robin Van Houten, is the fire type gym leader of Vleuterdam.
Leliestad is a medium sized town located on the man made island known as Flave. Due to Flave being perfectly flat, it's a popular spot for farms, including flower farms.
It houses the largest flower market in the world and houses multiple large businesses involved with the Floral Industry, one of these being TulpCo, run by the grass type gym leader Lilac Clusius.
Groenla is one of the few cities in Holova with their medieval walls still standing, but out of these cities, it's the biggest and most important.
Groenla, being close to the spring palace of the Royal Family, was always in the eyes of the Royal Family. Soon after the city was founded, it became the training and living place of many of the soldiers of the Royal Holovan Army. The city has been involved in countless battles but still stands strong to this day.
Many of the residents of this city are desendants of heroes of the olden days, of herioc knights, archers, soldiers, etc.
The clearest example would be the Rech family line, each member of which had been part of the Royal Holovan Army and have protected the city in times of war. The oldest member of this family will always be the Steel Type Gym leader.
Werter is a interesting city. It's in the middle of a forest/swamp, completly surrounded by mother nature.
While the people of the city haven't gone as far as all living in trees, they are quite close to nature, bug types in particular. The Bug Type Gym is run by the mayor of the town.
It's a city known for being nice and calm, a good place to raise children and grow old.
This city is known for being filled with rich people, that's about it. Most of the people who live here only live here because it's close to the Spring Palace.
Overhoorn in a city located on a spot where two large rivers cross.
Because of the large amounts of water they had at their exposal, the people of this city, for some reason, decided that roads weren't cool enough and replaced all roads with rivers, bridges and canals. It's also known as Venice of the North or Venice of Holova. This city is home to Holova's water type gym.
Erfeum is a medium citized city known for being popular with students. There are multiple universities, museums and research buildings.
Once a popular and lively town, Oustad is now more seen as a nice place for people to retire. Because of this, the town is mostly filled with elderly people.
Once a important part of Holova's economy, the coal mines were shut down a few decades ago because of multiple reasons, including but not only: Dangerous work conditions, health risks, slowly decreasing demand and supply of coal and the mines being too expensive to maintain and still be profitable.
The mines are now a small tourist attraction, but are more popular for the gym leader. Herman Steen, a former miner at the largest coal mine in south Holova, now the Ground Type Gym leader.
The town is IJssel, while small, is one of the more popular towns among the people of Holova. This is mostly due to it being the first town of a yearly event known as the '8 steden tocht' which is basically a giant ice skating race across the whole region. The town is build next to the 'Het altijd heldere meer' (The Always Clear Lake), which tends to freeze over quite a lot. Because of this, the town's people got into skating as soon as skates were invented.
It's the town's main sport and because of it, the town's people chose to have their gym be a Ice Type gym, always being run by the best Ice Type Skater in the town.
The current one is a man known as Johan Snel, a professional Ice Skater.
Het Altijd Heldere Meer (The always clear lake) as Holovans tend to call it, is a lake which always seems to have perfectly pure and clean water. But, this lake freezes over every winter.
It is said that long ago the God Pixelmon Regice and Suicune fought over that very lake. Suicine wanting to purify it and Regice wanting to freeze it over and use it as it's home. The battle ended with Suicune winning the battle, but not before the two Legendaries had forever changed the lake.
It is said that because of Suicune's touch, the lake and any water flowing into it will always be pure, while Regice's touch caused for the lake to freeze over every winter.
The lake breaks into a large river which breaks into smaller rivers spreading all across the region, connecting the main 8 gym towns via rivers.
The Royal Spring Palace is a large palace with a large beautiful garden owned by the Royal Family of Holova.
The palace houses not only the Royal family, but also the Elite 4 and a large hall known as the Hall of Heroes, which is filled with golden statues of important heroes from Holova's history.
See Grachterdam description.
A medium sized Port town which is kinda plain, but the food and restaurants are nice. The surrounding area is great for people who like to walk along the beach and enjoy sunsets. It sucks for people who actually wanna swim in the ocean because it's cold.
It's the fastest town to get to the Northern Islands.
A small group of islands known for all believing in a different god from the Regi group.

---Culture and religion---
Because Culture isn't a simply thing to explain, this section will be heavily updated over time and will be split into multiple catagories
There are many beautiful languages to learn in the world, some sound pretty, others sound flirty, others are amazing to swear in, and then there is Holovan, the 'MEH' of languages. Holova isn't a pretty language, nor is it easy. Because of this, Holovans are usually suprised when someone from a foreign Region who does not plan to live in the region has actually learned the language.
Learning Holovan isn't really necesarry in business or anything. Because they're so close to other regions and trade is a large part of Holovan Economy, learning multiple languages is seen as something very normal in Holovan culture and education. Being Bi or trilingual is basically the norm. It's rare to see a young Holovan that only knows Holovan.
Holova has bikes. Lots of em. For every person in Holova, there are 3 bikes.
The origin of the Region's bike obsession is debated, not hotly debated since... It's just bikes, but still debated none the less. While the origins may be controversial, the bike loving has only been positive to the region. It has helped many people live healthy lives, seeing as they get their basic daily excersise needs just by riding their bikes everywhere. The people of the region find this a normal thing and will actually find it strange if someone were to go by car for a short distance. You either go bike, Pixelmon or foot.
The infrastructure is very friendly towards bikers as well, the Region being the safest place to ride your bike in the world.
Rather than fighting the war on drugs, the Holovan Goverment accepted certaint drugs a long time ago, making them legal. These legal drugs are known as soft drugs, including Weed (420 Portalgunblaze it), some types of Benzodiazepines and Shrooms. Things like Meth, Herion and Crack are all still illegal.
It's a stereotype that because the Holovans have legal drugs, they're high all the time. This is simply false. Most Holovans, really don't care about drugs. The majority of people who buy drugs in cities like Grachterdam are tourists.
Most of these drugs can be bought at coffee shops or specialized stores.
Instead of something like the Kibo Festival, Holovans celebrate something known as Sinterklaas, which is a holiday in honor of Saint Nick. Just like Santa Claus, The Sint goes down chimneys as well, but instead of putting them under a tree, he puts them in the shoes people place infront of their fireplaces on his birthday, winter the 5th. He also has a lot of helpers known as Zwarte Pieten, or Black Pieters, which... Have caused some controversy.
In Holova, religion isn't seen as something extremely important. Most people, while religous, are not actively religous. Only a small portion of the population is actively religous.
There are many types of religions in Holova, from Kiboism, to Dimentionalism, to the one and true Religion of Lord Helix, to the 4 islands who all worship a different Regi-God. But, all these religions tend to live together peacefully, because in the end, the Holovans really don't care who you pray to, they care about what's in your wallet.
Just like with religion, Holovans... Don't care. You feel like you're not the gender you're born with? Cool, let's go watch football. You like guys while being a guy? Cool, you can have the same rights as everyone else, now let's go watch football. You're from a different race? Cool, can we please just go watch soccer now?
The Holovans are acceptant of everyone, mostly because they believe everyone is equal, but also a little bit just because they really don't care. You can live your life the way you want as long as it's not illegal. They don't care about what's in your pants or what your skin looks like, because in the end, you're still human.
Simply said, Holovans are much more open to PG-13 stuff than most regions. Censorship is seen as weird there and sexuality is far less taboo.
In Holova, there are three popular sports. Football (The real version, where the name makes sense), Hockey (Not the ice kind) and skating (The ice kind). There are many different football clubs, all popular in their own way. The biggest of them would have to be the Vleuterdamn Pyroars, who got the coolest Pixelmon for their team name, far better than the IJsell Swinubs, poor Swinubs. One of the more interesting parts about Holova's soccer is that there is actually a version for Pixelmon, not for them to watch, but to play. Pixelmon Soccer has actually gotten quite popular. There are two variants, games where Pixelmon only play, and games where Pixelmon play with their trainers.
But IJsell is lucky in the Ice Skating area, where they basically rule. One of the more popular sporting events in Holova is the 8 city tour, in which hundreds to thousands of skaters from all across the region go to skate, all across the region. They visit each town with a gym by skating through them.
This event can only be done if it's cold enough for all rivers to be frozen over thickly enough for it to be safe to skate.
Finally there is hockey. It's not as popular as Soccer, nor does it bring people together as much as Skating, but it's still something Holovans enjoy.
And there is of course Cycling.
Each region has stereotypes and Holova has a bunch of em. Such as:
Holovans always being high
Holovans being extremely greedy
Holovans hating the sea
Each Holovan having 20 bikes
Each Holovan living in a windmill
Each Holovan having blond hair and blue eyes, and braids if they're a girl.
And many more.
And all of these stereotypes are 100% true (No they're not)
It's known Holovans make a suprising amount of money from the Floral industry, with the most known flower they have being the tulip. It's a quite popular flower inside and outside the region, even the grass type gym badge is based of a tulip. So, where did these flowers come from and why did they become so popular?
While it's heavily agreed upon that Tulips were brought to Holova instead of originating from the region, there is a ongoing debate on who actually brought the flowers. Some say it was brought by a visitor from Milano by accident, others by someone from Kanto who gave the flowers as a gift, but the most agreed upon theory is about a Alkiri man bringing the flowers to the region to sell them. They would quickly become popular, before hundreds of thousands of them would end up being grown each year.
MORE TO BE ADDED, including: Money, Goverment, Royalty, The Sea, Pixelmon, Other Regions, Education, day to day life, food and more.
Language
There are many beautiful languages to learn in the world, some sound pretty, others sound flirty, others are amazing to swear in, and then there is Holovan, the 'MEH' of languages. Holova isn't a pretty language, nor is it easy. Because of this, Holovans are usually suprised when someone from a foreign Region who does not plan to live in the region has actually learned the language.

Because they're so close to other regions and trade is a large part of Holovan Economy, learning multiple languages is seen as something very normal in Holovan culture and education. Being Bi or trilingual is basically the norm. It's rare to see a young Holovan that only knows Holovan.
The bikes
Holova has bikes. Lots of em. For every person in Holova, there are 3 bikes.

Holidays
Instead of something like the Kibo Festival, Holovans celebrate something known as Sinterklaas, which is a holiday in honor of Saint Nick. Just like Santa Claus, The Sint goes down chimneys as well, but instead of putting them under a tree, he puts them in the shoes people place infront of their fireplaces on his birthday, winter the 5th. He also has a lot of helpers known as Zwarte Pieten, or Black Pieters, which... Have caused some controversy.
Religion
In Holova, religion isn't seen as something extremely important. Most people, while religous, are not actively religous. Only a small portion of the population is actively religous.
There are many types of religions in Holova, from Kiboism, to Dimentionalism, to the one and true Religion of Lord Helix, to the 4 islands who all worship a different Regi-God. But, all these religions tend to live together peacefully, because in the end, the Holovans really don't care who you pray to, they care about what's in your wallet.
Race, gender and Sexuality
Just like with religion, Holovans... Don't care. You feel like you're not the gender you're born with? Cool, let's go watch football. You like guys while being a guy? Cool, you can have the same rights as everyone else, now let's go watch football. You're from a different race? Cool, can we please just go watch soccer now?
The Holovans are acceptant of everyone, mostly because they believe everyone is equal, but also a little bit just because they really don't care. You can live your life the way you want as long as it's not illegal. They don't care about what's in your pants or what your skin looks like, because in the end, you're still human.
PG-13 stuff
Simply said, Holovans are much more open to PG-13 stuff than most regions. Censorship is seen as weird there and sexuality is far less taboo.
Sports
Stereotypes
Each region has stereotypes and Holova has a bunch of em. Such as:
Holovans always being high
Holovans being extremely greedy
Holovans hating the sea
Each Holovan having 20 bikes
Each Holovan living in a windmill
Each Holovan having blond hair and blue eyes, and braids if they're a girl.
And many more.
And all of these stereotypes are 100% true (No they're not)
Tulips
Royalty
MORE TO BE ADDED, including: Money, Goverment, Royalty, The Sea, Pixelmon, Other Regions, Education, day to day life, food and more.
---Economy---
The biggest parts of Holova's economy have to be food, trade, shipping and flowers. While they ofcourse do have other big parts, those 4 are the most well known and most popular. The country is quite rich for it's size and most people live comfortable lives in the region.
---OOC Info---
Holova is a playermade region made by the totally awesome Portalgunblaze (Also known as QuartzPT, Tijmenking, MechanicalAngel and that one annoying piece of-). This post is a update on the original post of Holova, to expand upon the region.
This post is still heavily WIP and current information may change by the time this post is done.
The map is also a WIP and has been made by someone who sucks at art.
