Where did you hear about us: Various people from Age of Settlers. Got sent the link by ANekomancer.
Tell us a little about yourself: I'm the Server Lead for the Age of Settlers Minecraft Roleplay server, and also a participant in a few other RPs. I'm very passionate about Pokémon and its lore, and have been looking for a Pokémon RP environment such as this one for quite a while!

-Roleplay Questions-
What is roleplaying?: Roleplaying is a form of storytelling involving several people who will "play roles" of various characters and other devices to move forward the story, typically not with an end goal in mind, but for the experience and fun of fulfilling a character or story fantasy.
What is meta-gaming?: Metagaming is the act of using out-of-character knowledge to influence a roleplay scenario unfairly.
What is power-gaming / god-modding?: Powergaming is the act of forcing an unfair RP situation that is likely to either benefit you or put others at a loss. It is essentially "playing to win" in an RP setting, or trying to force a situation to end how you want it to without the consent of other parties. Godmodding is the specific act of taking control of another player's character, and is also a form of powergaming.
What is retroactive continuity?: Retconning is the act of rewriting background lore or events to better fit the current or future story. Extreme cases of retconning are not allowed by the server rules.
What is the difference between in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC)?: In-character is the events and interactions that occur within the roleplay itself, whereas out-of-character is anything that occurs outside of the roleplay and lore.

Do you have previous experience playing on a RP server?: I used to roleplay on Creative Plot servers, private servers with friends, and have been staff on AoS for about 1.5 years. I'm also part of a Dark Fantasy Discord RP that's been going for five years now!

-General Character Questions-
Full name: Wren (Greywhisper)
Age: 18
Appearance: Wren is a 5'2 non-binary individual with pale skin and baby blue eyes. They often wear minimalist traveling equipment, as they have been without a home for years. They have natural white hair and a slim build, with facial features leaning towards feminine as per their gender at birth. The mature sorrow in Wren's eyes betrays their general appearance as a young-looking individual, and they are very soft-spoken most of the time, although can also be very commanding as well by raising their vocal intensity. Their facial expression is often reserved, and their mannerisms are equally closed-off and delicate, but at times of high intensity or energy Wren can become very articulate and physical with their gestures.
Personality: Wren is a shy and isolated individual, having suffered much hardship and thus been very distant from people in general. Though wary of people in general, and often avoiding confrontation or unnecessary social interaction, Wren is highly empathetic, and finds great sympathy for those who are suffering both physically and emotionally. In the present, Wren is determined, but reluctant. They prefer to be truthful and honest, but also have a cold guile that enables them to be convincingly deceitful should the need arise. Wren is overall mature in their approach to the world, hardened by its many struggles, but their lack of mental and emotional development due to trauma and turmoil has left their deep-rooted childlike spirit unable to break free. Should they find peace and comfort at last, their inner child would flourish, and their joy and passion for nature, Pokémon, and the mysteries of the universe would finally come to light.

Biography: Born into the Greywhispers, a high-middle-class Arceist family vying for influence in Albion, Avalon, Wren had extremely high expectations placed upon them as a young girl. From a very young age they befriended almost every Pokémon at their family's humble estate, even those that their father frowned upon as undesirable or dirty. However, due to a symbiotic, almost parasitic relationship the Greywhispers had with a true noble family, Wren was deliberately raised by their father to become the chattel of this family through forced marriage, so that the Greywhispers could become even more influential and prosperous.

Wren's father was a private tutor for the Alban language, meaning that Wren was home alone for much of their youth, until their bartender mother fell ill and was unable to work due to a heart condition. Wren's father would provide their education when he was home, and their mother would raise them, resulting in Wren becoming close and dependent on her. However, Wren never wanted to be restrained by family, or married for money. Wren wanted to be free, to explore the world on a journey, and admire the beauty of nature as a Pokémon trainer.

However, over the course of their childhood, Wren would notice a growing animosity between their mother and father. Their father turned out to be a cruel man, who was disappointed in his wife's incompetence and inability to provide for the family, while Wren's mother begged him to help raise their child. However, as it became clear that Wren did not align with their gender at birth, and was therefore not suited nor interested to marrying a man of the noble family they were destined to, their father became furious. He lost his job, and became a black market criminal to provide for the family he grew to resent. When Wren was 14, their father discovered their true identity, and declared that they were dead to him, causing Wren to fall into depression.

At the age of 15 Wren finally stood up for their mother, attacking their father with the help of their favourite Pokémon. However, this ordeal only left them severely injured, and forever separated from their favourite Pokémon. Wren’s mother, totally horrified, finally caved into the pressure of her husband, and told Wren that they had no other choice but to be forced into marriage as a woman.

Wren felt utterly hopeless. They felt trapped in a ring of torture they could not escape from. They felt imprisoned in a body that was no longer their own, forced into a life that was never for them, or all that they cared for would be brought to ruin. In a desperate measure to escape their cycle of suffering, Wren fled Albion, leaving their life, their family, and their mother behind.

The wilds were not welcoming to Wren, and due to the negative traits imprinted upon them by their family life, Wren was unable to find companionship even among the wild Pokémon. For many nights Wren slept alone, cold and desperate. They found no point in their life, and wondered how Arceus could allow innocent people such as themself to suffer so greatly. They stopped believing in it, seeing it as a careless god, cold and unsympathetic to its own creation. A flawed creature. Wren cursed the natural order, and swore to live in spite of its cruelty.

The only solace they found was in their dreams; when they slept, they were brought into a world of comfort and warmth that they never knew. That was, until they rescued a companion Pokémon - a Sandile - from an attack by other wild Pokémon. From that day forth they would both motivate each other through hardships, taking care of one another. They were both exceptionally devoted, and their combined determination would give them both the energy to power through even the darkest of times. Wren no longer needed to depend on dreams; they could truly live in the beauty of the world around them. They were on the road to becoming a trainer at last.

Wren’s journey has now led them to the Toro Region, where for the first time they have chosen to infiltrate the lives of people, in a bid to become an officially-recognized trainer. It is their mission to become strong, so that they may challenge the evils of nature that lurk in the universe’s darkest corners.

Flaws: Wren has a flawed sense of morality; when they witness suffering, they will often come to side with it, regardless of whether it is justified. Furthermore, they are prone to justifying their own cruelty by means of doing the right thing. Otherwise, their PTSD about family, money, and suffering can all alter or downright mitigate their ability to think or act; the worst cases of a traumatic breakdown can incapacitate them or even hinder their grasp on reaitiy, and they may be prone to hallucinations that could be exploited by malefactors. Wren is prone to strong emotions of sorrow, doubt, and self-loathing in failure or defeat.
Ambitions: To find the true beauty of the universe, and to prevent the suffering of innocent life, all while coming to an understanding of why the universe is a bizarre mix of beautiful and cruel.

-Open Response Questions-
-Write in third person!-

You find yourself standing in a bustling town. Suddenly, a small girl runs up to you, her eyes seeming to glisten with fresh tears as her bottom lip quivers. “Please!” She cries out to you, “You must help me! My poor Meowth is stuck in a tree!” She points to a nearby tree as more tears spill out of her eyes and down her cheeks. How does your character respond?

Wren, immediately drawn to the fear in the eyes of the distraught girl, feels their heart sink at the girl's words. They glance up to see the terrified Meowth, clinging ever so desperately to the tree, and wordlessly rush over, wasting no time with theatrics or idle words. Putting their survival expertise into practice, Wren begins to climb the tree with a passionate fire in their heart, ascending to the branch and leaning across it, reaching with a free hand as they themself cling to the tree trunk. After reaching in for a few grabs that barely sway past the poor Pokémon, Wren finally grasps the Meowth and draws it back toward their chest with one determined lunge. Wren reassures the scared Meowth with a comforting "I've got you! It's okay now..! You're safe..." before gently gripping it and clambering carefully down the tree. Wren presents the Meowth to its rightful caretaker - the girl - and gives a mellow smile as she collects it from their arms. "It's alright... You have nothing to worry about anymore."

You are walking along the road when your eyes lock onto a trainer's in the distance. At that moment, you both freeze in place. You see a glimmer in the trainer's eyes as he reaches for his Pokeball. "Go, Rattata! Show this chump what we've been training for!" the trainer shouts as he swiftly releases his chosen partner in the vacant space that separates the two of you. How does your character respond?

Wren flinches at first, unable to formulate a response to the trainer's brazen approach to Pokémon battling. Wordlessly, their gaze darts across the battlefield, as they furrow their eyebrows and give an affirming nod that betrays their true intentions. As much as they see this as an opportunity to improve their skills and grow stronger as a trainer, they feel as though they are not ready to deal with the loud and pushy attitude of a battle-happy human. After all, they are more used to the trials of the wilderness, and the threat posed by a Pokémon-wielding trainer are something Wren has not yet become used to. "I-I... I'm sorry, I'd rather n-not... if that's okay with you...", Wren says meekly, unwilling to face the threat they perceive. However, with more fighting words from their adversary, Wren finally musters up the courage to release their Sandile, and unshackle their battling spirit. A sudden confidence boost overcomes them, and soon enough, they are in battle mode, as if they were in the wilds that they once called home for far too long.
