Toro's Battling: E4 and Champions

Post: # 16519Post Misha »

The Pokemon League

Toro has its own Pokemon league- complete with a Victory Road full of NPC trainers, an Elite Four played by other members of Toro, and the ability to challenge a strong trainer for the title of Champion!

Victory Road
Before you can challenge the Elite Four and enter Victory Road, you will need to obtain at least one gym badge from each of eight of Toro’s eight towns. Once you’ve done then you can create a Staff Ticket or DM a GM to ask for entry to Victory Road. The first time you do so, you will be challenged to make your way through the cave while defeating NPC trailers.

The cave includes some unusual spawners and high level Pokemon as a reward for trainers who have gotten this far. Because of this, you will not be allowed ICly or OOCly to bring others into the Victory Road for your trailer. Once you have access to it fully however, you may travel there with other characters who also have access.

Rules
  • 1. The Victory Road trial will take priority over members using it to train. While a new competitor is going through this, it will be cleared of other visitors while they are inside.

    2. You may not ICly or OOCly discuss Victory Road challenges with others who have not completed it or the designers of the challenge (E4 members).

    3. You will not be allowed to fly in Victory Road during the challenge due to trivializing parts of the trial. However, you may fly when you have completed all of the challenges and have open access to it.

    4. You MUST be 18 years of age or older.

Elite Four
These are four trainers played by trusted players chosen by the GMs. All our efforts are devoted to making this a fun yet competitive environment to give you a unique experience! As for the challenge itself, it will operate mostly as you would expect: you will challenge four monotype trainers, and you must defeat all of them without a loss.

Trainers and teams who beat the Champion will permanently be recorded, with names and photos, in the Hall of Fame in the League building for everyone to see!

Rules
  • 1. You may not change your Pokemon between battles, nor are you allowed to change their moves or forms. However, switching held items between battles will be allowed so long as you follow the Item Clause within any particular battle. This includes between the E4 and the Champion Battle!

    2. Non-held items are banned (ex: potions, revives, etc.), however you may heal your team between battles.

    3. After a defeat, you must wait for seven OOC days after the battle you lost, or 10 after the first battle (whichever would be shorter; this is to avoid punishing people for having to spread their challenges out based on OOC schedules) before challenging the Elite Four again. This includes losses to the Champion. This time limit may be flexed if OOC scheduling demands it, and may also be changed, temporarily or permanently, if we feel that it is causing problems.

    4. You must follow the ‘Item Clause’ from VGC; your team may not enter battle with any duplicate held items. This encourages more diverse strategies and creates a healthier battle environment. Both Elite Four members and challengers will be bound by this rule.

    5. The Elite Four battles will not be open to spectators, and you may not discuss specifics of Elite Four teams OOCly with anyone who has not challenged all of the same teams. We are not restricting IC discussion, though we would encourage you to have your characters keep specifics to a minimum (Ex “Elite Four Bob’s Bibarel was a nightmare!” is okay, but please try to avoid “Bob’s Bibarel held a Jaboca Berry, had the ability Moody, the following four moves, and could outspeed my Aggron after a Sticky Web,” for multiple reasons. We don’t need this information to be completely locked down, but we hope that by keeping it from being a general chat topic in Discord, we will preserve some of the mystique and challenge without limiting RP- since your characters will probably want to talk about the challenge!
Scheduling a Battle
Due to the fact these battles are through players rather than NPCs, they will not always have matching schedules and the matches may be split up over time. You may also challenge them in any order.

To schedule a battle make sure you review all the rules and then make an Elite Four ticket, which can be found in the Discord! In there you can schedule battles with the E4.

Championship
In order to become one of the Champions of Toro- you must go through Victory Road, defeat all of the Elite Four without losing, then beat one of the Champions! This Championship battle is open to spectators, and we hope you will all come attend. There will be snacks.

Champion Title
In the Toro Region, Champion is a title given after passing the Pokemon League. It is a rank rather than a singular position that needs to be defended, and losing to others doesn't revoke the fact you are Champion-ranked.

This is OOCly inspired by the system in Paldea, but we ask that you do not ICly reference Paldea as the lore for that region is still currently worked out. This change for Toro itself also does not reflect on the other regions- Kanto, Hoenn, etc. are still keeping their normal system of simply having one Champion.

Rules
  • 1. You may not challenge your own character. If you have a character that is a Champion, and you have a second character who defeats the Elite Four, you will have to fight someone else.

    2. Champions who are convicted of a serious crime in character will be stripped of their title by the League authorities (being an ex-Champion criminal is cool enough that this is only an IC punishment).

    3. Both the Champion and their player will be expected to display good sportsmanship, even outside of Champion battles.

    4. The E4 have the right to decline a battle for their own health. There are back-ups available if needed.
Who will I fight to become Champion?
The Champion you fight will be decided by League Officials [The Battle Committee] through one of the following methods:
  • 1. Random chance (Default)
    2. Champion’s choice
    3. Contender’s request
In all methods, the Champion or Contender are allowed to deny a challenge or request a different opponent for OOC conflicts (personal or scheduling). To request a specific opponent on either end both parties must agree, and it must be done exclusively for IC, character-driven reasons. A good example is a predetermined rival or idol established within RP.

Note: If you request a specific opponent, it must have IC justification (cannot ask to fight an OOC friend even though the characters have no connection). It cannot be for battle meta (ex: having a better/worse team), or empty reasons (ex: you just “want to”). You can however ask about avoiding specific opponents due to OOC reasons like scheduling conflicts or personal drama- just let us know.

Current people are authorized to battle any challengers for the title of Champion:
  • Elizabeth Ross [Stow]
  • Asasil Ahlgrim [Jhin]
An option will be given to find out which champion you are facing, or to be blind and be surprised at the battle. When you’re ready to fight a Champion, please submit a Staff Misc. ticket and the Battle Committee will help you set it up!
