History: Born into the Renland family, a wealthy family of explorers and archaeologists in Kalos, Johan had always been surrounded by the past. Be it his father’s Aegislash and Claydol, or his mother’s Runerigus he played with as a boy, to the many artifacts they brought home from their jobs. This led to him quickly developing a fascination with the world before, specifically in fossil pokemon.The young Johan spent most of his free time at the Lumiose city museum, admiring the fossils and paintings. His middle school days could be best summed up in an incident in which his twin brother Sebastian stole and tried to use his father’s Scizor in a battle against school bullies. The destruction from said battle left several people hurt, including Johan's siblings, though thankfully there were no casualties or crippling injuries. In his early teens, he excelled in pokemon history, eventually being accelerated into university and gaining a bachelor's degree at just 15. Soon after that, though, a family tragedy struck, as his grandfather was killed by a mysterious pokemon on an expedition. As Johan and him were very close, this pained him greatly. Soon after, he vowed to live up to his grandfather's legacy, and wanted to go explore a region for himself. On his 16th birthday, his parents gave him a fossil his grandfather had left him, saying “Make your dreams come true” Soon, after, he was on a boat to Toro. As for the rest… We’ll see how it pans out.

Personality: A scrappy, fun-loving, chaotic mess, Johan is just as likely to be wandering the wilds as he is dashing through towns and cities. He never passes up the chance to make a new friend, but make him mad, and prepare for the beatdown of your life. He makes close bonds with his friends, always trying to make sure they can achieve their goals and be better people. In private, however, Johan is burdened with a large amount of trauma, always comparing himself to his late grandfather, and always wondering if he can (or ever) live up to him. He believes that pokemon should be treated with trust and respect, having seen their capability for destruction firsthand.
Strengths: Johan has a pokemon natural history degree, is an accomplished athlete, and is a surprisingly good cook. He has spent so much time around pokemon, he can usually quickly ascertain what they need or want. He is fiercely protective of his friends, and is willing to do anything in order to help or assist them
Weaknesses: For an explorer, he has a surprisingly terrible sense of direction. He also is not the most strategic when fighting angry, oftentimes just throwing out whatever move he feels like and hoping for the best. He can be extremely reckless if he gets truly furious, sometimes acting with a care for his own safety or the safety of those around him.

Now, Atlanta is an on and off fixture of Johan’s team, alongside her newfound mate, Geiger the Luxray, and unlikely friend, Jotun the Avalugg.
