YOU’RE THE BEST!
Helloooo, everyone! Kitty canon specialist here for an explanation of Pixelmon telepathy: which pixelmon are telepaths, how they function, and what limits and necessities are needing to use them in RP. Court has been super-helpful in writing up some rules which have been approved by the GMs. Without further ado, let’s get into it! A note about talking pixelmon in general has been added at the bottom, so be sure to check that out~YOU’RE THE BEST!
Telepathy History:
The ability for telepathy between a Pixelmon and a trainer is impossible to achieve if the Pixelmon was not born with the ability to do so. Only certain Pixelmon species possess the ability to communicate telepathically. On rare occasions though, it can be developed over time by certain Pixelmon, usually through practice of the ability if a parent of theirs had it (recessive trait), or through evolution into a later stage if their species is known to be able to communicate telepathically. However, there have been a few cases in which those certain species are unable to communicate telepathically due to conscious or subconscious barriers.
The reasoning behind why certain Pixelmon can telepathically speak with people is unknown, and still raises questions due to the mystery.
Science:
Some of the top scientists around the globe have conducted research on multiple Pixelmon. The tests are as followed:
- - Trying to determine whether other pixelmon can learn the ability to speak telepathically, however, it was shown that that was impossible to do.
This shows that it is a genetic, not an acquired trait.
- Seeing if whether people who have a strong bond with a Pixelmon can help the Pixelmon develop the ability to telepathically talk, the results, unfortunately, were negative.
A strong bond with a trainer does not promote telepathy into becoming an acquired trait, telepathy is entirely based on the biology and genetics of a Pixelmon species.
- Testing two Pixelmon who are able to communicate telepathically against one another to see if their brain fluxes and skills/knowledge are of the same ability, the results show that there were little to no similarities
-Raised two different Pixelmon -one capable of telepathy when older and one not capable at all- in the same loving and caring environment with the same person who gave them equal amounts of attention and praise to determine whether it was to do with upbringing. The one not capable of telepathy was not able to develop the ability, whereas the one capable developed faster.
Abra (Trainer only)
Kadabra (Trainer only)
Alakazam (Trainer only)
Slowking (Trainer only—Slowking cannot speak verbally in this universe)
Ralts (Trainer only)

Many Legendary Pokemon are capable of telepathy far beyond that of normal Pokemon, able to communicate with as many individuals as they desire at a time.

Guidelines:
The Pixelmon can only telepathically speak if out of its pixelball, no matter what their situation on the guidelines are.
There is a scale based on Happiness for Section 1. While optional, it is there to help guide players that need assistance defining their Pixelmon’s abilities.
1.1) The Pixelmon’s happiness -
This contributes to the Pixelmon’s ability to communicate, although, it is not the main factor. The happiness displays how ‘free’ your Pixelmon as well as the activities that the two do together to boost the happiness.
This can determine the clearness of their speech.
0-85 happiness: The speech between the two is almost static and hard to make out.
86-170 happiness: The speech is clearer, but some words are still hard to distinguish.
171-255 happiness: The speech is at its clearest and all can be made out.
1.2) The bond between the two -
The Pixelmon and partner need to spend time together. Whether it be cooking, eating, swimming, playing, even sleeping or doing chores together.
The strength of the bond/friendship between the pair helps determine the distance that the telepathy can reach.
0-85 happiness: 8m (blocks)
86-170 happiness: 16m (blocks)
171-255 happiness: 32 m (blocks)
1.3) Trust between the two -
The two beings must trust one another to help with the telepathy. The trust can be boosted with certain exercises/activities that they can perform together. The stronger the trust, the better.
The trust between the two helps to create a stronger link between one another, meaning that they can communicate for longer periods of time.
0-85 happiness: one or two sentences at a time.
86-170 happiness: A few paragraphs or the equivalent
171-255 happiness: Extended conversation
2) Health of the Pixelmon -
The Pixelmons health is a variable that can alter during its lifespan. This can be the Pixelmons physical health:
Broken limbs, infected wounds, etc.
To mental health:
Cruel past/present owner, traumatic past, etc.
The Pixelmons health contributes to how easy it is for the Pixelmon to communicate telepathically. On the occasion that their health is quite bad, it may harm the Pixelmon further, and if it is very bad, it can often harm the person/people that they are communicating to also.
(Please note that the Pixelmon’s health is NOT the Pixelmon’s hp bar. It is its rp health status.)
3) Situation the Pixelmon is in -
Sometimes, the Pixelmon’s situation can alter all the factors, despite how strong or weak each one is. If a Pixelmon is scared for example, its telepathy may be more rushed and harder to understand, whereas if a Pixelmon wants to play and is very excited, the telepathy may be stronger.
This is something that is very altering. It depends very much on the situation and the Pixelmon’s personality, meaning that the outcome varies from Pixelmon to Pixelmon.
(If a more thorough explanation of telepathy is desired, the telepathic Pixelmon has the ability to stimulate neural pathways in the brain to propagate a communication signal to that one individual trainer by stimulating their sound-perception ((I forget the word)) pathways. Furthermore, the ability to ‘read the mind’ is derived from the ability to translate the signals generated by the trainer’s mind. This is entirely based on the Pixelmon interacting with the human’s mind, the human in no way interacts with the Pixelmon’s mind. The Pixelmon writes to his or her mind, and then reads their response. Additionally, this may help explain why a closer “bond” to a trainer promotes the ability to telepathically communicate between a trainer and his or her Pixelmon, because the Pixelmon becomes accustomed to manipulating and reading the trainer’s mind.)
Courteney14 here writing this thank you message!~
I just want to thank Kitty for being amazing and reading this whole thing over. I also want to thank her for supporting the idea which I suggested when we started talking about it in PM’s.
I also want to thank Queso for reading it all over beforehand and helping me iron out certain area’s so that, when read, people can gain a better understanding of what is allowed, what isn’t allowed, and, helping me come up with the boundaries of the telepathy.
It is really nice to know how supportive, helpful and kind the staff members are!~

(without telepathy)
It is portrayed heavily in the anime that Pokemon are able to speak with a lot of practice. On our server, this does not happen. The only pixelmon that are able to speak are the ones with telepathic communication listed above. If you have a pixelmon that is able to speak at the time of writing this post, you are the only exception.
With this being said, many players have formed creative ways to get past the language barrier in the past that does not involve verbal communication. If you really want a pixelmon to communicate, get creative.
