“Think you're escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home.”

Minecraft Name:FloopAlZarqawi

Character Name: Ulysses Hartmann
Nicknames: N/A
Age: 28
Birthday: 5 Winter 1024
Gender: Male
Status: Single

Description
Height: 5’9
Weight: 170 lbs
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Russet Brown
Skin: Fair
Markings: None Particularly Noticeable

Ulysses has a friendly, winsome face. Lean, from years of poor eating, but not quite gaunt, the young man has a distinct, and memorable visage, blessed with a handsome set of high cheekbones, deep set eyes, and sharp aquiline nose, and a decidedly square chin with a short neatly kept beard, maintained with the utmost attention to detail. A somewhat vain man Ulysses’s hair is always neatly brushed, and his thick eyebrows are trimmed, given of course, that his current circumstance offers such a luxury. His hazel blue eyes offer a spark of quiet brilliance, seemingly studying everything around them as if it was a gift from some benevolent force. The young lawyer's neatly parted russet hair, is soft and straight, with the exception of a small bend around his forehead that never quite curves perfectly, instead deferring to a curl, much to the chagrin of the young man. Ulysses’s skin is fair, lending his look to his mother’s anglo origins, over his father’s germanic blood.

Ulysses stands at an unremarkable 5 feet, and nine inches give or take. The young man has a lean, and unassuming build, weighing an even 170 pounds fully dressed. Although his shoulders are not overtly broad, and his arms are hardly strapping Ulysses is still a fairly athletic man, with long legs that have proved especially useful in his efforts to travel the world, and see all of its splendor with his own eyes, and to ensure that justice prevails. The young lawyer walks with a graceful, gentle gait, a respectful swagger that betrays the fact that he truly believes himself to be the smartest man in the room.

A man of the times, the Good Lawyer likes to keep on the cutting edge of fashion his wardrobe full of custom tailored suits. In his freetime Ulysses will lounge in slacks, and a sweater, and perhaps on the rarest of occasions his favorite baseball team’s jersey. Ultimately the man would never be caught dead outside of a collared shirt. His clothes are as neat as possible for someone who travels often, as if he takes great care in his appearance.

Life Style
Religion: Devout follower of Arceus
Profession(s): Lawyer
Title(s):Ulysses Thompson, Esquire

The young man peeked into the courtroom, taking a deep breath as the magnanimity of the situation fell upon him. Years of schooling, internships, and office work have culminated to this very moment, his first case, even so he was nervous, incredibly so. He took a breath before reaching into the pocket of his blaser, feeling around for a moment before finding a necklace, a holy symbol his mother had given him when he graduated high school. He’d press the jewelry to his lips for a moment before reciting a small prayer

“Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name” he lets out a small breath, clearly more comfortable as he continues on “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on this earth as you have created it, as it is done in heaven, give me the strength to do what I must. Forgive me my sins, and forgive those who sin against me. Protect me in this life, and allow me to insure justice is rendered in this world, as you render justice in heaven with your holy judgment. Amen, and Arceus bless.”

With that the young lawyer felt more confident, as if a higher power was backing his actions. He strode into the courtroom, ready to begin what would hopefully be a prosperous career.

Biography

History:
The first member of the Hartmann family set foot in Unova after the onset of the second great war. A political refugee, Ulysses’s grandfather Hans was a professor of political science in Germanva before he was forced to flee due to his criticisms of the rising fascist government, he eventually settled down, working at a Unovan university in castelia city, and speaking out in favor of individual rights. Ulysses’s father grew up well to do, his struggles were not monetary but cultural. The son of two immigrants, Ulysses’s father found himself quickly rejecting the mix of cultures, before finally learning to balance the two. He’d go on eventually study political sciences in college as his father did, and would start working as an administrative specialist for the department of education. Ulysses mother is an immigrant herself, a foremost expert on avalonian literature she met Uylsses’ father at a symposium at which she was lecturing, the two fell for one another, and the rest as they say is history.

The son of a government man, and a professor of literature Ulysses was born firmly within the Unovan middle class, which was at the time of his birth experiencing an unprecedented growth, meaning he had ample opportunities during his formative years, participating in many community building programs. This deeply ingrained Ulysses with a love of society from his early years, making him fairly sociable, and later in life clearly, and unequivocally impacting his view of the social contract. Ulysses's parents were incredibly dedicated to their child’s education, and insured that he was enrolled into the most prestigious secondary schools.

As he grew older Ulysses would begin to fall in with a crowd of young intellectuals. With the onset of yet another Asiatic war for Unova the fervent patriotism that had gripped the nation began to fade. It became en vogue, at least for those of Ulysses’s generation to become dissentful of the government, many teenagers would fall in with socialist groups that preached the evil’s of capitalism, a cardinal sin within Unovan society. Even so Ulysses never believed in such causes, despite their seduction of his friends, until one day he was handed a copy of “Kapital” during a small get together at a friend’s ski lodge. Ulysses would quickly radicalize, fervently supporting communism during his late teens, and going so far as to study political sciences in University in order to learn more on the subject.

It was not until he’d taken his first economics course with the nobel laureate Milt Freedman that he found himself quickly changing his views once more. Now becoming a supporter of a non-interventionist state both in the social and fiscal sense. Ulysses would find a love for politics, and would quickly decide that his future lay in it. He’d work to receive top marks in his undergraduate career, majoring in Economics. After a particularly good Senior year he’d find his way across the Ocean, attending the prestigious Taurosford Law School all the way in Avalon.

Ulysses would return to Unova after law school, attempting to get into politics. Alas his short dalliance with socialism was quickly dug up and used to discredit him, the man had already glanced back at the city of sin, and so, as with Lot’s wife he became a pillar of salt. Unable to further his goals in Unova, Ulysses despaired wallowing in his shame before lifting himself, and setting his sights overseas once more, though not to Avalon this time, but instead the young Toro region. Ulysses would promptly apply for a job under the Arbiter of Justice Marigold LeGrand, and buy a plane ticket.

Nature
Personality:
The good lawyer carries a sort of simple, small town, new world charm that can only be found in someone from Unova. Ever the optimist in a world that ain’t too kind to optimists he’s generally sittin’ in the middle of it with a smile on his face, and some good news to tell you. If you need a helping hand chances are Ol’ Ulysses’s gonna be there for you, if you need someone to talk to the Lawyer is there with an attentive ear and a cup of tea. This general pleasantness combines with his eloquence, and charm to make him very popular in whatever town he’s drifted into this time. Sometimes our best features can also be our worst, and Ulysses isn’t divine, he’s susceptible to these same problems, the same concern for his fellow man that ensures he is sympathetic to their problems sometimes causes him to be nosy, his willingness to help can easily be interpreted as intrusiveness. Of Course most detrimental of all is his natural trusting nature can mean doom in the complex political games he’s involved himself in.

Strengths
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me”
―Psalms 23:4
Faithful: Ulysses has an unshakeable faith in God. He believes that moral piety, and purity is far and wide the most important thing in the world, and that gives him confidence. It bolsters his self esteem because each, and every step he takes in life is full of conviction, and truth. Whatever he does, he does with passion because at the end of the day faith in what he does is the most important thing to him.

“Bragging' is when a person says something and can't do it. I do what I say.”
―Muhammad Ali Clay
Socialite: An eloquent young man, he’s found it easy to finagle his way in and out of any situation. Graced with the gift of gab,he generally fits in just about anywhere he goes. From the exalted halls of Taurosford University to the quiet calm of his hometown this young Lawyer always seems like he belongs, in no short part due to his silver tongue, and fake it till you make it mantra. With the ability to make friends with even the most sour of individuals, and to best opponents with just his words, there’s no doubt that his charisma will help him go far in life.

“Whatever their future, at the dawn of their lives, men seek a noble vision of man's nature and of life's potential.”
―Ayn Rand
Idealistic:For all of his strengths, none shines more than his idealism.Ulysses stands by his ideals and will not compromise his beliefs for anything, standing ever brave, honorable, and undaunted in the face of the many dangerous of the galaxy. Ulysses’s idealism spurs him onwards, it allows him to do what others would call impossible because he simply refuses to give up, always pushing himself to his very limit, simply to further what he believes is truly right. Ulysses’s idealism is his greatest ally.

Weaknesses
“ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ”
― King Leonidas I of Sparta
Stubborn: Ulysses has the willpower of a monk, and the stubbornness of a Khangeskhan; A combination, much like in the case of King Leonidas, that can often times prove to be fatal. When Ulysses’s heart, and mind are set on something he will achieve whatever goal he has set his sights on or perish trying. Ulysses’s unrelenting stubbornness can often times polarize those around him. The undoing of many of his fledgling friendships, when Ulysses believes himself to be right, he will refuse to drop something until he is proven wrong, or whomever he has challenged relents. Many a pub brawl has been only narrowly avoided after some drunken denzin, and Ulysses have disagreed on something.

“If there is a single quality shared by all great men, it is vanity.”
―Yousuf Karsh
Vain: Ulysses is a man who takes great care in his appearance, and the appearances of others. Despite being calm, and level headed he does not quite feel himself unless he has properly styled his beard, bathed, and parted his hair. Believing that one's appearance reflects their innermost selves, Ulysses takes great care in neatly brushing his hair, and ensuring his clothes are as immaculate as the world allows. His vanity can oftentimes be his undoing, causing him to be late to many important functions, or to get to underestimate others because he is so caught up in appearances.

“Scratch any cynic and you will find a disappointed idealist.”
―George Carlin
Idealistic: There are few things worse than an obstinate man. All of Ulysses’s weaknesses stem from this one character trait. This idea that he has a personal duty to the ideals he upholds causes him to be stubborn, a perfectionist who is never content with what he has, constantly striving to reach this moral ideal. At times his idealism can be a driving force helping him to do great things, but it’s also got a darker side, it can often be a major hindrance, keeping him from living life, and growing as a person.
