Tatsuo was born in Goldenrod City in Johto, raised by his parents with care, until they died in an unfortunate car accident when he was 6. His Uncle was kind enough to take him in with him and raised him, with less care and more of an iron fist. He didn’t want his brothers son to grow up as a wimp so he taught him how to fight. Said Uncle also was part of a local Yakuza family and seeing him fight his enemies every day he quickly grew to look up to his Uncle, wanting to become just like him, seeing him as strong, reliable and fearless. He joined the same yakuza family his Uncle was part of at 14, still a lot of space left to grow for him. Tatsuo spent his days fighting rival gangs and other street punks, beating up hobos and extorting money from people. He enjoyed it for a while but around when he was 18 he realized that it all was incredible dull. He had worked himself to near death on many accounts, having gained somewhat of a reputation, but he didn’t feel like he was getting anywhere. His Uncle however told him that once you are in the yakuza you stay in it, the only way out is death.
He obviously didn’t want to die as well as tell the person that raised him that he can’t do this “work” anymore. Over the years he started to hate it more, he had gotten himself quite the name of being unbeatable, however he was never able to defeat his Uncle in single combat. His “family” members urged him to get a tattoo, a sign of strength so out of obligation he got himself a big tattoo of a Rayquaza all over his back.
One day, after a heavy fight in some backstreets in Goldenrod City, a monk stumbled by the place Tatsuo just finished cleaning the floor with some grunts. He was kicked at a downed grunt as the monk came and touched him on the shoulder. Tatsuo, being quite swift on his feet, and thinking it was another enemy, spun around and sucker punched said monk, knocking him out easily. He was an old man and after Tatsuo realized this fact he felt quite bad so he carried him home to his place. After said monk woke up, Tatsuo apologized to him profusely. The monk waved him off and they began to talk. The focus of their conversation was Tatsuo and how he became to be as he was, where he got the tattoo from and why, what he is doing currently, why he was fighting those people in that back alley and many more. Tatsuo told the monk everything he asked of him, every little detail. He felt calm around the monk, he radiated this complete neutrality and it just made him talk. The two of them talked for hours, the monk enlightened Tatsuo about the world, the religion he followed and he just kind of accepted it. He started to see something else other than endless, useless fighting. He saw a glimmer of hope.
However it would not go so smoothly, he tried to quit the yakuza but they wouldn’t let him. He was one of their best man at this point, they won’t let him go. Not alive. He begged the family’s boss but that only got him scorn and into a fight in the patriarch's house barely escaping after fending off his enemies. That day he didn’t return to his Uncle’s house, too scared to face him and his wrath of angering the family head. He lived on the street for a while instead, constantly moving to escape any other family members that may come after him. Through sheer luck, or godly intervention, he ran across the monk again, telling him about what happened since they last saw each other. The monk took him in, hiding him away in his temple for a while. However, the yakuza were able to sniff him out and invaded the temple. After apologizing to the monks at the temple he ran again, taking any and all money he could from the people he defeated on his way. He used this stolen money to escape from Goldenrod City and Johto, towards a better place. He took a boat to the cheapest place he could, that place was Toro.

He is also very dense, he won’t get advances from most people, finding relationships and the like quite tedious even.
